BabyLegs & Sweet Feet

I forgot to say in my earlier post, the oxygen prongs came off last night, and Taylor's maintaining her sats just fine all on her own. So her face is finally free of tubes and tape!!!!

Taylor's last feed before the anaesthetic and surgery was at 8pm on Sunday night. Surgery was over Monday morning at 9:30am, then they had a drain on the tube for 4 hours. They started running a continuous feed at 5pm last night, nearly 24 hours without food, no wonder the poor sweetie was fussy. I'd be crying too! Because her stomach had endured a major trauma of surgery, feeds have to be started incredibly slow to ensure the stomach can tolerate it. She started last night at 5mL per hour (a teaspoon). At 9pm it went to 10mL per hour, 1am to 15mL (a tablespoon), 5am to 20mL, 9am to 25mL, then 35mL at 1pm, and 44mL (3 tablespoons) at 3pm. That was the goal rate, because 44mL per hour over 24 hours is equal to her normal daily fluid intake. They stopped the feed at at 7pm for an hour and then started a bolus of 90mL to run over an hour. It just finished running and Taylor tolerated the faster rate and bigger volume just fine. They'll do another bolus at 10pm. Then at midnight they'll go back to running a slow continuous feed through the night to keep her comfortable. I believe the plan in the morning is to start bolus feeds again, working back up to what she normally gets at home (5 bolus feeds per day of 210mL each). Really hoping that goes well and we can get home tomorrow.

I wondered down to the gift shop this afternoon to get a magazine and stumbled on the cutest little BabyLegs and just had to get Taylor a pair! She's sporting them now with her yellow striped hospital pajama top. I can't get a sleeper on her yet because they haven't taken her IV out and her hand is wrapped around a board with a facecloth around it. And while I was clicking away with the camera it seemed to become all about her sweet little feet.

She's not quite back to her usual leg-kicking self, but she's on the mend. Making her little noises, not as much crying. Nice to see my little love coming around. Marissa's anxious for her sister to get home, she asked me today what her second belly button looks like!
